2 women shot in College Hill neighborhood, suspect in custody

ST. LOUIS – Two women are in stable condition at the hospital after being shot Monday in north St. Louis. According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the shooting happened in the 1900 block of East Prairie Avenue, located in the city’s College Hill neighborhood. Police said the victims, ages 56 and 44, were at a bar when they saw Earl Hood in the establishment. The victims were familiar with Hood and knew him to be violent, so they left the bar and drove away. Hood followed the women in his own car, police said. When the women stopped, Hood approached their vehicle, opened the car door, accused them of stealing from his girlfriend, and shot them both. One victim was shot in the stomach, while the other suffered a gunshot wound to her leg. Police said Hood was taken into custody a short time later. The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Hood with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm. Online court records do not yet show when Hood will appear before a judge. Hood was on parole at the time of the shooting, police said. He has prior convictions for first-degree robbery, first-degree tampering, and felony stealing.
