2,000 households surveyed in five days in Udupi district

Udupi Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroopa said on Friday that 2,000 of 3,55,771 households were surveyed during five days of social and educational survey in the district. She said that not just teachers but other staff from State departments in the group ‘C’ category are roped in to conduct the survey. Speaking to presspersons in Udupi, the Deputy Commissioner said, “There is a shortage of teachers to conduct the survey all by themselves. Though there are 1,800 primary school teachers, some of them are close to retirement and some have health issues. So about 1,500 school teachers are available for the survey.” Hence, staff from social welfare, forest, excise, revenue, and RDPR have been involved to conduct the survey. Some high school teachers have also been involved. 1,900 of 3,231 enumerators are already in the field. Others too will join, she said. The DC said that some enumerators faced software problems and technical glitches with their handsets, but they were being addressed. A consultant was appointed at each taluk to resolve the issue faced by enumerators, she said. The latest version of survey software was adopted on Friday, and trained enumerators worked without many glitches, Ms. Swaroopa said.
