1980s rock band cancels reunion tour due to lead singer’s ‘serious illness’

A rock band popular in the mid-1980s has canceled its fall reunion tour. The Stray Cats announced Tuesday that they are abandoning the rest of their cross-country fall tour due to lead singer and guitarist Brian Setzer’s health issues. “I’m heartbroken to share, due to serious illness, I am unable to perform and very regrettably have to cancel our Stray Cats tour,” Setzer said in a statement. “I know this affects so many people and I am devastated to have to deliver this news. I’ve been trying everything I can to go on and do these shows, but it is just not possible. I’ve been looking forward so much to being on stage with my band mates again and playing for all of our amazing fans, and I’m gutted.” Refunds will be available at the point of purchase for all canceled shows. Setzer, 66, did not elaborate on his health issues, but he said in February that he had been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that made him unable to play guitar. Founded by Setzer in 1979, the band is known for its unique style that combined 1950s rockabilly revival and 1980s punk attitude. Hits include “Stray Cat Strut”, “(She’s) Sexy + 17”, “Look at That Cadillac”, “I Won’t Stand in Your Way”, “Bring It Back Again”, and “Rock This Town”, which the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame listed as one of the songs that shaped rock and roll. The band had released two new songs ahead of the tour.
