19 in hospital after suspected gastroenteritis outbreak in Dharwad village

As many as 19 people were admitted to hospital following a suspected gastroenteritis outbreak in Gudi Sagar village in Dharwad on Wednesday.

The 19 are in the Navalgund Taluk Hospital following complaints of vomiting and diarrhoea.

A team of officers led by Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu G.R.J. and MLA N.H. Konaraddi visited the patients in the hospital. They also met the family members of the patients.

Ms. Prabhu said that she has formed a team to conduct spot inspections and tests on drinking water sources in the village.

Some residents complained that the water in the village lake was polluted. Samples from the lake are being taken, the Deputy Commissioner said.

“A team of 30 ASHAs has been formed in the village to create awareness about water, sanitation, water purification and use and to conduct health checks. A house-to-house survey has been started,” she said.

The MLA said that he has directed doctors to provide all care to the patients. He said that he will hold a meeting of zilla panchayat officials to ensure such incidents do not recur.
