Former Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has heaped praise on new Manchester United shot-stopper Senne Lammens and revealed he won't implode if he makes a big mistake. Lammens arrived at Old Trafford this summer for £18.2million (plus add-ons) from Royal Antwerp, with the keeper signing a five-year contract. After a breakthrough in negotiations, the Belgian travelled to Manchester to finalise his transfer on deadline day. The 23-year-old is regarded as one of the most talented young goalkeepers in Europe and has already impressed in his early days at M16. Lammens kept a clean sheet on his United debut against Sunderland before another confident performance in Sunday's 2-1 win at Premier League champions Liverpool . And Mignolet has delivered his verdict on what makes his compatriot so good, having played with Lammens at Club Brugge in the Belgian Pro League. “He has the build and the qualities to succeed in England. He’s big, explosive, and strong on high balls. And he can save balls that other goalkeepers can’t,” Mignolet said, via Voetbal Primeur . “With his shot-stopping, he can score points for United. He’s steady in his head and handles pressure well." Importantly for United fans - and something that will no doubt be music to their ears - Mignolet revealed that Lammens is someone who can overcome mistakes. Mignolet added: "He has the ability to bounce back after a mistake and stay calm.” United's goalkeeping issues have plagued them for some time, but Lammens's early performances will offer huge encouragement to Reds fans after the struggles of Andre Onana and Altay Bayındır. Onana was eventually shipped out on a season-long loan to Turkish side Trabzonspor following a number of high-profile errors. Former Reds captain Gary Neville has previously shared his belief that United need goalkeepers with big personalities and characters. Speaking after an error from Bayındır in August's 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, Neville told Sky Sports : "When the goalkeeper is flapping at the ball, those 72,000 home fans are groaning and that sends a shiver through the spines of defenders. It also sends a shiver through the goalkeeper and creates an anxiety around the stadium. "You've got to have personality, stability and character in that position." Lammens appears to have these credentials, given comments from Mignolet and other former team-mates of his. Ex-Fulham full-back Denis Odoi, who saw Lammens up close at both Club Brugge and Antwerp, has explained why the young goalkeeper could fit the profile of player Neville has called for at M16. “Senne is rather introverted, even in the dressing room. He’s not very exuberant. That calmness is typical of his personality," he said. “He’s very conscientious. He really does everything he can to make sure he can’t blame himself for anything. “Sometimes we’d come back from a match against Club Brugge at 1 a.m. and he’d still be in the gym. Because he hadn’t played as a second-choice goalkeeper, he wanted to get some work done.” Here at The Manchester Evening News, we are dedicated to bringing you the best Manchester United coverage and analysis.
