Autumn is officially here (and it has definitely brought the cold and wet weather with it). But as the leaves start to brown and pumpkin spice comes back into fashion, the trend for autumn baby names is sure to pick up among new parents as well. And Scotland boasts many unique baby girl names that are undeniably autumnal in their meaning. While ‘Autumn’ itself can be a gorgeous name, there are plenty of titles with warm and cosy connotations that are ideal for babies born during the coming colder months. For those particularly interested in baby name trends, MiglioriCasinoOnline has gathered a list of beautiful, autumn-inspired baby names, and used the latest data from the National Records of Scotland to discover the top ten most popular Scottish girl names inspired by the season. Here are the most popular Scottish autumnal girl names, ranked by how many babies were registered with each title in 2024. Top on the list of autumn baby girl names in Scotland is Bonnie. Bonnie is of course a Scottish term meaning “pretty” or “beautiful”, a name which reflects the beauty of autumn in our country, where the landscape turns vibrant and colourful. In first place, 188 baby girls were named Bonnie in 2024. The second most popular autumn-inspired baby girl name, with 180 babies given this title in 2024, is Ivy. The plant has deep, symbolic meaning in the Celtic culture that influenced Scotland, representing fidelity (in that it won’t easily let go of what it clings to), community, and eternity (in how it binds in a long lasting way). Orla – from the Gaelic ‘Orlaith’ – translates as ‘golden princess’. In Scotland, Gaelic names have been historically common, and many have been adopted with slight variations. Orla’s meaning of “golden princess” beautifully ties into the rich golden hues of autumn. Last year, 159 girls were named Orla in Scotland. Amber comes from the deep orange jewel that forms from tree sap. The warm, glowing colour of amber mirrors the deep orange and russet tones of autumn leaves, and amber is often linked to ancient Scottish jewellery. A total 54 baby girls received this name in 2024. The name Hazel comes from the hazel tree, common in Scotland, whose nuts ripen in autumn. Scotland welcomed 43 baby girls named Hazel last year. Other popular autumn-themed baby girl names in the top ten list include Autumn (in sixth place), a name which directly represents the season itself, invoking images of autumn leaves, harvest time, crisp air, and the beauty of nature’s transition. Meadow came in seventh place, evoking Scotland’s landscapes and pastoral beauty that glow in autumn. Aurelia meaning ‘golden’ came in at number eight, symbolising the colour of the leaves and the gold colours of an autumn sunset. Fern, after the ancient plant came in ninth and Paisley in tenth- after the town known for its medieval abbey and the famous Paisley pattern.
