10 countries Ghanaians can now visit without visas

Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the successful conclusion of visa waiver agreements with 10 countries across Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, and Latin America, significantly enhancing the global mobility of Ghanaian passport holders.

The latest agreement was signed this week with Antigua and Barbuda, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The deal allows citizens of both countries to travel visa-free and was hailed by Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as a major step toward deepening Ghana–Caribbean relations.

“This is the 10th visa waiver agreement secured for Ghanaians since assuming office as foreign minister,” Ablakwa announced in a post on X.

He added that the John Dramani Mahama administration is deliberate about strengthening the value of the Ghanaian passport, boosting Ghana’s global image, and improving the travel experience of its citizens.

The other nine countries that have concluded and ratified visa waiver deals with Ghana are:

São Tomé and Príncipe

Dominican Republic

The ministry explained that these agreements will foster trade, tourism, investment, and cultural exchanges, while also connecting Ghanaians more closely with global communities, including African neighbours and diaspora ties in the Caribbean.

Ablakwa noted that Ghana is also expanding its diplomatic footprint with new consulates planned in Lisbon, Dublin, Massachusetts (USA), and Singapore, in addition to its recently opened mission in Budapest, Hungary.

“These steps will deepen Ghana’s global reach and create more opportunities for trade, investment, and cultural exchanges,” he said.

With more visa waiver deals under negotiation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it remains committed to expanding opportunities for Ghanaians worldwide.
