10 autumn beauty buys we're shopping to level up our skin, hair and makeup regimes

There are more skin, hair and makeup launches at this time of year, and it’s the perfect time to stock up on some new autumn beauty.

The change in weather prompts us to think beyond hydration and sun protection, and the chillier days are perfect for adding some newness to our everyday routines.

If you are looking to level up your routine, keep scrolling, these are our 10 top autumn beauty buys for the months ahead.

Autumn Beauty Buys – Byredo Alto Astral EDP, €240/50ml

Byredo doesn’t release new fragrances all that often, but this Alto Astral EDP has been worth the wait. A woody gourmand, this opens with coconut and vibrant aldehydes, giving it a sparkling facet.

The heart of the scent is incense, jasmine petals and milky musks. Creamy sandalwood, cashmere wood, and salted amber are the dry-down notes.

The inspiration for the new scent comes from a Brazilian expression that evokes joy and good vibes, and it’s an uplifting scent that will take you through winter.

Shiseido New Ultimune Power Infusing Serum, €134/50ml

Shiseido has spent 30 years researching the role skin immunity plays in fighting signs of ageing. This Ultimune serum is the brand’s fourth, and with every advancement in skincare, it adds new technology.

Suitable for all ages and sexes, the new Ultimune serum works to eliminate aged skin cells that lead to sagging, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation.

The brand utilises a fermented camellia concentrate that uses the whole plant, including flower, leaves, oil, and extract, to enhance skin health, combat ageing, and restore a radiant glow.

Trinny London Miracle Halo, €38/15ml

Glitter-free glow is the goal for younger-looking skin, and it doesn’t get better than this Miracle Halo illuminating liquid from Trinny London.

Four subtle shades are available: Starlight (cool champagne), Candlelight (gentle pink), Sunlight (honey gold), and Firelight (gentle bronze).

The multi-use illuminators contain flattering pearls that give the skin a lit-from-within glow. Use on bare skin, mixed with your foundation, or tap a little on the highpoints of your face after makeup as a final touch of radiance.

Estée Lauder The Essential Eyeshadow Quad, €56/six colour ways

Creating beautiful palettes of flattering nudes for all skin tones is a trend this season. Earlier this autumn, we saw the Hourglass Curator collection, and now Estée Lauder has launched a beautiful six-piece line of shadow quads.

With a mixture of matte, satin, and shimmer shades, the quad colours can all be worn separately, but together they can make a dramatic evening look.

The trend for using single-shade cream shadow sticks might be replaced with this autumn beauty wave of pretty nude palettes.

The Skin Diary Age Defence Moisturising Day Cream SPF 50, €110/50ml

The Skin Diary is a dermatologist-led Irish brand founded by Dr Clare Kiely. The brand launched with Night Repair Therapy, a rich cream that rebuilds and restores the skin with a host of great ingredients, including retinol, peptides, and actives, priced at €150.

This new Age Defence Day Cream is your do-it-all day cream. It has encapsulated sunscreen filters that are safe for sensitive skin and work beautifully under makeup with no white cast or greasy feeling.

These are bolstered by two repair enzymes that counteract any UV that slips through. Antioxidants help protect the skin against environmental pollution and improve its radiance.

Jean Paul Gaultier Scandal EDP Intense, €119/50ml

Scandal EDP Intense is the 15th in the cheeky series from designer Jean Paul Gaultier, and it’s a spicy, sexy little scent. Unexpectedly, a hint of cardamom at the top brings the spiciness, before ylang-ylang petals usher in a sensual vibe to the fragrance.

The base note is vanilla absolute, a creamy and sensual note rather than a sweet one, which gives the fragrance a more sophisticated trail.

The bottle, with its signature legs-in-the-air cap, lets you know that this scent is one for those who enjoy a good time, not for wallflowers.

RMS Beauty Revitalize Hydra Concealer, €38.42/26 shades

RMS Beauty is an American beauty brand with mature skin in mind. This skin-correcting concealer is designed to fit perfectly with ageing skin.

It’s essentially a wrinkle-reducing eye cream in a concealer form, packed with hydration to prevent creasing and settling into fine lines and crow’s feet.

The medium coverage concealer uses a natural retinol alternative to soften lines around the eyes while it covers up dark circles under the eyes and redness on the lids. Twenty-six shades are available for all skin tones.

Voduz Detox Pre-Treatment Detox Spray, €20.95/200ml

Given the hardness of Irish water in certain areas, it’s great to see a hair spray like this launch, as it removes up to 73% of copper and other mineral deposits that cause our hair to go brassy.

The bigger brands have started taking this issue seriously, most notably L’Oréal Professionnel and its Metal Detox range. Still, this Detox Pre-Treatment spray and its partner shampoo are from the Irish brand, Voduz, and they are perfect autumn beauty buys for post-summer hair.

Simply spritz the hair generously and leave for five minutes before hopping in the shower to wash it out.

Neostrata Matrix Support SPF 30, €76.95/50g

This is a very interesting moisturiser. A day cream, it contains retinol to minimise enlarged pores, fine lines, and wrinkles, as well as NeoGlucosamine, which targets discolouration and uneven skin tone.

Retinol is generally a nighttime product for skin rejuvenation, but by adding a broad-spectrum SPF 30 to this peptide-enriched moisturiser, you get protection, anti-ageing action, and skin brightening all in one cream.

For retinol beginners, this is a great place to start and easy to incorporate into a routine. If you want to boost your glow this season, this is a great autumn beauty buy that will do the job for you.

Calvin Klein CK Cotton Musk Hair & Body Perfume Mist, €34.95/236ml

Last of our autumn beauty buys is Calvin Klein’s latest fragrance launch, a four-piece collection of hair and body mists. Getting in on the craze for this type of scent, the four are: Silky Coconut, Sheer Peach, Nude Vanilla, and Cotton Musk.

The last one was created by Irish perfumer Meabh McCurtin, who has also created scents for brands such as Montblanc, Ellis Brooklyn, Maison Martin Margiela, and Hugo Boss.

Meabh also created three scents for the Galway perfume brand, Cloon Keen. It’s great to see Irish talent in the perfume world.
