1′ Season 9 premiere tonight for free: Time, TV channel, where to watch live and on demand
Over the past eight seasons of “9-1-1,” Los Angeles first responders have come face-to-face with a tsunami, a tornado of bees, crashing blimps and just about every other disaster you could imagine. This time, they’re going to space, when “9-1-1″ Season 9 premieres on Thursday, October 9 (10/9/2025) at 8 p.m. ET.

The series highly-anticipated return has been teased for weeks, and interest spiked when a trailer appearing to show a meteor shower crashing down on Los Angeles was memed to death on social media. Things got even crazier when a follow-up trailer showed Angela Basset and Aisha Hinds literally taking a rocket into space. Calamity ensues.

What to expect from ‘9-1-1’ Season 9, Episode 1
According to the official synopsis, “In honor of Bobby Nash’s sacrifice, the 118 comes together to dedicate the fire house in his memory; when a billionaire tech giant is involved in a life-or-death emergency, the team must race to his aid.”
Thanks to the Season 9 teasers and trailers, we know quite a bit more about what to expect during the first episode and early season arc. That billionaire is “Trip Houser,” a Jeff Bezos allegory who gets swallowed by a whale (yup) and wants to reward the 118 members who saved his life by sending them on a once-in-a-life-time mission to space (because remember how much everyone loved when Katy Perry did it?).
Unfortunately, Trip is keeping something secret: there’s a “geomagnetic storm” approaching. That storm isn’t going to just be a problem for the space launch, it’s going to rain literal fireballs on all of Los Angeles.
We’re honestly not sure if this is a job for the LAPD, or the Avengers. Take a look:
What is ‘9-1-1’ about?
The procedural drama reimagined. “9-1-1″ explores the high-pressure experiences of first responders — including police officers, firefighters and dispatchers — who are thrust into the most frightening, shocking and heart-stopping situations. These emergency responders must try to balance saving those who are at their most vulnerable with solving the problems in their own lives. The show draws from real-life, high-pressure experiences of first responders who regularly face heart-stopping situations that are often unpredictable, intense and uplifting at the same time.
