Like what? Americanism has a very strong distrust of Government as one of it's core values - and if you've been keeping up with recent US politics, you can understand why. Couple that with another concept that's integral to American culture - "rugged individualism" - and you get this interesting cocktail of intrinsic beliefs that are hard to dissuade. And those beliefs have informed American views on guns and gun ownership for the entirety of our history. In 2025, we have reach a point where there are more guns than people in our country by a factor of about 3:1 -- this also means it's practically impossible to remove guns from American culture. Because people are inherently distrustful of their government here, mandatory confiscation and collection would fail very spectacularly, with significant number of violent incidents (not to mention, it would be particularly difficult to do given just how many guns there are). Because of the ingrained notions of rugged individualiam, people here aren't willing to give up their guns willingly, either. Of course there's always exceptions, but in general... even when given ample opportunities to simply not buy guns or to turn in the guns they have to the state in exchange for cash (e.g. a buyback), the vast majority of people simply insist on keeping their guns. That being said, I think there's a lot of other problems that coalesce with the availability and saturation of guns in the US, which in turn fuel gun violence - but that also means that gun violence can be reduced by specifically easing those issues. Poverty, inequality, inequity, undereducation, lack of community engagement or civic pride, significant issues of bigotry across all spectrums of race, gender, orientation, religion, etc. If those problems can be solved, gun violence will be (mostly) solved with it. Obviously, given the current regime in our country, things are unlikely to improve with a lot effort that's really the topic of an entirely different conversation lol but... if there was a blueprint to solving the issue, that's what it would be.
