Nitte (Deemed-to-be-University) will host its 15th convocation on November 7 and 8 in two separate ceremonies at its campuses in Mangaluru and Nitte. In all, 1,999 graduates from various disciplines will receive their degrees on those days, according to M.S. Moodithaya, Vice-Chancellor of the university. In all, 28 doctoral degrees, 959 postgraduate degrees, 1,054 undergraduate degrees, five fellowships, and two postgraduate diplomas will be awarded at the convocation, he said. Addressing the press on Monday, Prof. Moodithaya said that the convocation on November 7 will be held at Nitte grounds of KSHEMA campus in Deralakatte, Mangaluru, at 10.30 a.m. K. Srinath Reddy, Honorary Distinguished Professor and Goodwill Ambassador of the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) for Public Health Partnerships, and former Head of the Department of Cardiology, AIIMS, Delhi, will deliver the convocation address. The university will confer the Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) Honoris Causa posthumously on late Madhukar Shantharam Kekre, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to medical education, research, and institutional development on the same day. The second convocation ceremony will be held on November 8 at the Nitte Off-Campus Centre, Nitte, at 10.30 a.m. Siddu P. Algur, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Kerala, and an engineer known for his expertise in web mining, knowledge discovery, and big data analytics, will be the chief guest. At the convocation in the Mangaluru campus, degrees will be conferred under the faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Allied Health Sciences, Humanities, Biological Sciences, Architecture, Speech & Hearing, and Hospitality Management. In the Nitte Off-Campus Centre, degrees will be conferred under the faculties of Computer Applications, Engineering & Technology, Business Administration, and Commerce and Management. N. Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor of the university, M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor (Hospital Management) and Vishal Hegde, Pro-Chancellor (Administration) will attend the two ceremonies, Prof. Moodithaya said.
