The Public Works department has sanctioned ₹7 crore for constructing a new inpatient block at General Hospital, Alappuzha. The fund was sanctioned following a demand raised at the Nava Kerala Sadas. The proposed block will be a two-storey structure, of which the ground floor and part of the upper floor will be built in the first phase. The proposal was made by the hospital superintendent in view of the increasing number of patients and the shortage of space, including in the emergency wing. The design prepared by the Public Works department’s architecture wing, in compliance with current health infrastructure and safety standards, has been approved.
