The former UFC fighter developed severe pneumonia after contracting a bacterial infection and underwent a double lung transplant earlier in June.Askren reportedly lost over 50 pounds in 45 days and claimed that he had no recollection of the events that transpired between May 28 to July 2. Four months after his harrowing ordeal, Askren is back on the training mats.In a recent social media post, the wrestling savant outlined a short timeline of his tribulation and his return to full health:So @the_rudis sent me a pair of shoes and I just couldn’t help myself... 4 months ago I was on my deathbed, 3 months ago I couldn’t stand unassisted, 2 months ago I was still using a walker. What’s your excuse?? Tie them up tight, and let’s get to work. Couldn’t be more grateful to be back at it and for all of the support the community gave me during such a hard time."Fans soon flocked to the post's comments section to express their thoughts on Askren slowly getting back to training. One fan wrote:"There is no longer a discussion about who the hardest fighter in the history of MMA is. You are an inspiration."Another fan wrote:"This is so incredible to see. Your resilience could move mountains. No recollection. No idea. No idea what happened. I just read through my wife’s journals, and it’s like a movie. It’s ridiculous. I only died four times, where the ticker stopped for about 20 seconds. That’s not ideal. But I got the double lung transplant. I made it out the other side of it."He continued:"The thing that was most impactful to me was all the love I felt from everybody. It was almost like I got to have my own funeral. The outpouring of love from the wrestling community is just amazing. It felt so good. I love you guys."
