“When Women Thrive, Humanity Thrives”

Sarah Hassan Kamal El Gazzar and Silvia Antibas in a panel on women Opening the panel, Silvia Antibas, Vice President of Marketing at the ABCC and panel moderator, spoke briefly about how halal is a lifestyle.“Halal represents contemporary universal values, and therefore is part of everyone's life, especially women's.” Next, the Vice President of Marketing spoke with Sarah Hassan Kamal El Gazzar, Dean of the College of International Transport and Logistics, about the presence of women in technology within the halal sector. “Having women in the logistics sector has proven that they aren't just beneficiaries of empowerment but also drivers of transformation in the logistics field, especially when we talk about the halal economy,” Gazzar explained.“As a logistics specialist myself, I can say that logistics has long been seen as a male-dominated and highly technical field, but now we can witness young women managing projects and supply chains, and representing their institutions internationally.” To discuss the latest trends regarding women's participation in the halal economy, the panel's other moderator, Claudia Yazigi, member of the ABCC Board and Chair of the WAHI Women's Committee, invited Alessandra Frisso, another member of the ABCC Board and Director at H2R Research. “The most recent evidence shows that female leadership is increasingly notable, both in Brazil and globally, in sectors such as fashion, food, tourism, finance, and cosmetics. And when we look at the fastest-growing areas, cosmetics, fashion, and pharmaceuticals stand out,” Frisso said.“We also see young women making strong contributions in technology, launching startups and creating new businesses with a very interesting perspective-a feminine perspective on family and community issues.” Continuing the discussion on the halal economy sectors experiencing the most growth with female participation, Soha Chabrawi, Technical and Religious Quality Manager at FAMBRAS Halal Certifier, presented data from a recent study. “According to a study by The Global State of Islamic Economy, women have influenced three sectors: fashion, cosmetics, and tourism,” Chabrawi said.“Muslim women are very style-conscious, so they like to have good clothing and cosmetics. When we talk about Muslim fashion, we mean more modest fashion, which is not easy to find in non-Muslim countries. Due to this gap, even well-known brands like Nike and Puma are turning to this market.” At the end of the panel, Sulivan Alves, Technical Director of the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), addressed the topic of women's presence in agribusiness. “Talking about women in agribusiness is strategically discussing an economy that can be improved. We have made progress, but objectively speaking, they are still behind in global leadership positions across all areas and in pay equity. Discussing female empowerment aims to provide equal opportunities with equal rights and responsibilities. When women thrive, humanity thrives.” GHB sponsors include MBRF (Marfrig – BRF), MODON (Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones), Seara, CaraPreta Carnes Nobres, EcoHalal, Emirates, Grupo MHE9, Laila Travel, Prime Company, and SGS, with catering by Água Mineral Frescca and Pão & Arte Frozen Bread.
