PANAJI: Tension flared in the coastal belt of North late on Monday night after two separate incidents were reported from Baga and Arpora, where LED display boards outside local shops suddenly began flashing the message “Pakistan Zindabad.” The unexpected and provocative text caused concern among residents and tourists in the busy beach belt. Quick police response prevents escalation Reacting promptly, teams from the Calangute and Anjuna police stations rushed to both spots. Officers quickly disconnected the LED boards to prevent further unrest and apprehended two individuals allegedly linked to the displays. The swift police response helped calm the situation and avoided any major public disturbance. Local sources said that crowds had started gathering around the shops after noticing the messages, but police intervention ensured the matter did not escalate. Probe underway into cause of incident Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine how the messages appeared. Police are probing whether the incident was a case of deliberate mischief or the result of a technical hack into the display systems. A senior police official said, “We are checking the origin of the message and the devices connected to the LED boards. Strict action will be taken against those responsible, whether it was intentional or caused by a system breach.” Public urged to remain calm Officials have appealed to the public to maintain peace and not spread rumours. Cyber experts have reportedly been roped in to trace the source of the message and verify whether similar LED boards in nearby areas were affected. Local authorities have also stepped up patrolling in the Baga–Calangute–Arpora stretch, especially around market areas and tourist hotspots, to ensure no further incidents occur. Situation under control By Tuesday morning, police confirmed that the situation in the area was under complete control. The two detained individuals were being questioned, and further updates were awaited from the investigation team. Residents and business owners have welcomed the quick response of the Goa Police, who ensured that tensions were contained in one of the state’s busiest tourist zones.
