Twitch streamer Hasan Piker was refused entry to the VIP area during New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s election night celebration on Tuesday. According to a video shared online, a staff member stopped Piker near a staircase and explained that his name was not on the list for the upstairs area. Hasan Piker, known online as HasanAbi, is a Turkish-American political commentator and one of Twitch’s most popular streamers. Born on July 25, 1991, in New Jersey and raised partly in Turkey, he began his career at The Young Turks (TYT), a progressive news network founded by his uncle Cenk Uygur, before shifting full-time to Twitch in 2020. There, he built a massive following for his mix of political analysis, gaming, and cultural commentary, becoming a leading voice of the American left online. Piker is known for his outspoken socialist views, strong stances on income inequality and labour rights, and charismatic, often provocative on-camera persona. Earlier, he faced criticism over inflammatory remarks about US foreign policy, backlash for his expensive lifestyle as a socialist, and most recently, allegations of animal mistreatment, which he has denied.
