‘WE ARE NOT SAFE WITH THEM SPANISH’: FAMILY SUNDAY NIGHT EXPLOSION VICTIM WANTS JUSTICE

GEORGETOWN – The devastating human cost of the Regent Street gas station explosion was laid bare today as a tearful relative of the victims, speaking in an emotional interview, alleged a harrowing scene of trauma, dismissive hospital staff, and profound fear of the suspects who committed the crime. The victim’s aunt painted a grim picture of her family’s suffering, demanding justice for the death of six-year-old Soraya Bourne. The explosion, which tragically killed Soraya Bourne and injured four others, left the family in chaos. The aunt detailed the horrific injuries: “The boy, his… were showing. So he had to go on the surgery. My other cousin, she had to do a surgery for her face. My grandmother, she foot break. My other cousin, she’s not hearing, she’s traumatized.” The relative’s outrage was not limited to the attackers, as she leveled shocking accusations of neglect against public servants who allegedly failed the grieving family: The family was reportedly met with indifference at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC). The aunt claimed the doctor showed “no remorse to the family.” She further alleged that hospital staff immediately “cover[ed] up the little girl” and refused to give the distressed mother information, saying: “No doctor come to our rescue. Nobody come to our rescue.” Despite the ongoing trauma, the relative claimed CID officers were demanding questions from the car’s driver, Jenica Hooper, who is suffering from hearing loss and intense psychological distress: “My cousin that was driving the car, every time she jumping up. She jumping up, she can’t hear. The CID man coming for questions. She can’t hear.” The aunt appealed for investigators to speak to a stable family member instead. The aunt revealed the simple, heartbreaking nature of the trip: “It’s a normal Sunday afternoon thing that there is go and buy the chicken. Every Sunday my cousin carry them and buy the chicken and bring them back.” She noted that the driver never left the vehicle. She voiced profound fear for the entire family’s safety, referencing the police search for a Spanish-speaking man allegedly seen placing the bags that caused the explosion: “We are not safe in this country with the Spanish. We are not safe because I just got a phone call, come, come down to the hospital.” The aunt’s desperate demand was singular: “We need justice. We need justice for the family.” The family involved in the tragedy included the driver Jenica Hooper, grandmother Yvonne Jonas (71), the deceased Soraya Bourne (6), Sedia McIntosh (12), and Rashard Lorde (7).
