The ranking highlights the top ten premium high streets nationwide, with a focus on areas that exhibit a strong sense of community, economic vitality, and enduring appeal. Wimbledon Village emerged at the top of the list, praised for its unique combination of urban convenience and village charm. Sonia Cheng of Knight Frank described Wimbledon Village as a rare blend of city living and pastoral ambience. ‘Despite being in the capital, it truly offers a village-like feel – people greet each other in passing, and there’s a real sense of community,’ she said. The high street is home to a diverse range of shops, including national brands like Gail’s bakery and The Ivy restaurant, alongside popular independent businesses such as Wimbledon Books, Boho Beach Fest, the Ad Lib Gallery, and jeweller Michael Platt. This blend of retailers contributes to a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. The street is lined with period architecture that adds to the picturesque quality of the area, complemented by a range of eateries, boutique stores, and traditional pubs. The locality offers opportunities such as Sunday mornings at the farmers’ market, followed by picnics on the nearby Wimbledon Common – demonstrating a balance between community spirit, convenience, and countryside charm. Cheng advised prospective buyers to expect property prices approximately 30% higher than those in other parts of Wimbledon. According to Rightmove, the average house price in Wimbledon Village is a hefty £1,335,808 – double the average across London as a whole, which currently sits at £663,176. Flats in the area sell for an average price of £589,986, and terraced properties for £1,298,883, with detached properties fetching £4,099,562.
