NewsNation host Chris Cuomo chided left-wing influencer Brian Krassenstein on “The Chris Cuomo Project” Thursday for supporting former CNN host Don Lemon’s call for racial minorities to get guns to use against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Krassenstein posted on X on Oct. 17 that he was in complete agreement with Lemon, arguing the Second Amendment was designed for Americans to defend themselves “from government overreach.” Cuomo sparred with Krassenstein on his podcast about what Lemon was advocating for and how Americans should use the Second Amendment. I’m for protecting your home. I’m for protecting yourself.” Cuomo asked Krassenstein what he was referring to. “From any threat,” the influencer said. “No, not any threat. Not any threat. I have a shotgun in my house and other weapons ready to put a hole in someone who wants to hurt my family. Not police, okay? Not a tax assessor that I think has gotten it wrong,” Cuomo retorted. “Not a cop who has mistakenly identified my son or not an ICE agent who believes that I’m not a citizen because I don’t want to give him my ID. That is not why I arm myself. And that’s what you endorsed.” Krassenstein claimed Cuomo was mischaracterizing his position, reiterating the view he expressed in his X post. “Now, if you’re an American citizen, put yourself in the shoes of an American citizen or maybe somebody that can legally own a gun in America and you have people breaking down your door without a warrant, masked up and you have kids in the house,” Krassenstein said. “Will it make you feel better to have protection in your home, a gun in your home? Obviously if they’re ICE breaking your home, I don’t think you should shoot them. But I do think that to a lot of people who are living in fear because of ICE … legally having a weapon, I think, is something I would recommend.” “Brian, you know that this is bullshit man,” Cuomo said. “Listen, I’m a gun owner … but that’s not what he was talking about.” Attacks on ICE agents have surged by 1000% year-over-year, according to an August Department of Homeland Security (DHS) release. During ICE operations in Chicago, agents were attacked by multiple individuals who used cars to ram agency vehicles, with Chicago police allegedly standing down instead of helping ICE agents being assaulted during one Oct. 4 incident. An individual also fired at ICE agents with a pistol during a raid on a California marijuana farm in July after obtaining a warrant. Moreover, DHS asserted in a Sept. 26 X post that there had been multiple violent attacks on an ICE facility in Broadview, Illinois. Other ICE facilities across the country have also faced attacks.
