Connacht’s shiny new high-performance centre (HPC) sits between a 145-year-old graveyard known locally as ‘the new cemetery’ on one side and a building site on the other. The past is always present, but there’s a new forward-facing outlook in the west. When they take to the field against Benetton tonight, the new stand will loom over them. With the seats installed, it looks good to go from the front but there’s plenty of work to do underneath to have it ready for the grand opening against Leinster on January 24.
