‘Survived India’s Poop-Throwing Festival’: US YouTuber In Hot Water Over 'Disrespecting Religious Beliefs’

Just because someone lives in India and is an Indian, does not mean that they HAVE to celebrate Holi- a festival that has a lot to do with active physical participation. Perhaps that’s why it’s quite normal for people to NOT participate in Holi and enjoy the fun festivities from far away instead. All in all, participating in festivals is a choice. However, when this particular YouTuber seemingly portrayed that he ‘survived’ a festival- after participating on his own- the internet did not like it! Tyler Oliveira, a US YouTuber, is currently facing heat over ‘disrespecting religious beliefs and traditions’. Oliveira had participated in the ‘Gorehabba festival’, where participants throw cow dung at each other. On October 23, Oliveira reportedly shared a video of himself participating in the festival in Karnataka’s Gumatapura village. The video showed the American standing in the middle of a celebration, wearing a hazmat suit and goggles. By the looks of it, the man could hardly enjoy it and eventually left. However, to most netizens, it was simply a disrespect as nobody had asked him to participate in the first place. Reportedly, the festival celebrates Beereshwara Swamy, the village's deity, who was born from cow dung, as per belief. Coming back to the YouTuber, not only did he defend himself, but he also later shared another video, which showed him walking on a street- looking ‘defeated’. His hazmat suit, bag and other belongings had cow dung smudged on them, while the man was walking barefoot. The caption of the clip, on the other hand, read, “I Survived India’s Poop-Throwing Festival.” The internet naturally did not like the man’s portrayal of the festival. Most called him out for the ‘uninvited participation’, while some suggested that he participate in ‘similar festivals’ that are ‘celebrated in the US’ as well. Times Now could not confirm the details and the authenticity of the post. Check out the viral post: “I Survived India’s Poop-Throwing Festival,” the post read. The post was shared on X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘tyleraloevera’. The post was shared yesterday and pulled more than 6M views from netizens. Who asked you to participate? You participated by your will,” commented a second person. “Whats messed up is that the road he's walking barefoot on is actually rather clean and wont cut his feet. He is just acting like that, to demean a religious thing that he does not understand and was not forced to take part in,” added the next person.
