‘Now You See Me: Now You Don’t’ Stars To Visit Theaters As ‘Holograms’.

Proto Hologram tech lets you get selfies with your favorite actors, even if they are not really there. Proto Hologram In the world of illusionist movies, the Now You See Me franchise stands tall as the best, though arguably, also the only, example of the genre. For the upcoming November 14th release of the third installment, entitled Now You See Me: Now You Don't, four of its stars, Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, and Justice Smith, will magically be making appearances in 15 select theatres across the U.S., without having to be there in person at all. This is possible thanks to the use of life-size Proto Hologram boxes, which make it seem as if the actors are actually standing inside the boxes. As part of the fun, the actors will take out a smartphone from their pockets and offer to take a selfie with the person in the theater lobby, which can then be sent to their phone by scanning a QR code. “This amazing technology borders on magic, so there’s no better way to anticipate the release of Now You See Me: Now You Don’t,” said Kevin Grayson, president of worldwide distribution for Lionsgate, in a statement. “Get your selfies with the cast now, before they disappear.” The image of the actors is simply overlaid over an image taken by the camera mounted at the top of the Proto box, but Proto founder David Nussbaum explains that this simplicity is deliberate. Proto’s OS features an open API and SDK that make it easy for developers to integrate custom applications, content, and controls. It essentially lets anyone, even an amateur web app creator, build their own experiences to play on Proto. If you can code a web app, you can create Proto experiences,” he told Forbes over email. MORE FOR YOU Back in April, Proto Holograms were used to promote Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and were also used for A Minecraft Movie with interactive Proto boxes placed in malls across the US. However, this is the first time they have arrived directly in theater lobbies. Proto Holograms can be used for both pre-recorded materials, such as this, but it also for live feeds. Could this be the future of long-distance red-carpet experiences? Further reading: Editorial StandardsReprints & Permissions
