Inner-west residents say the project’s ambition to pull 9000 trucks off local streets each day is pointless without filtering the polluted air that will be drawn from the four-kilometre tunnel and pumped into the atmosphere. The project team insists its technology will push pollutants high enough for them to disperse safely. It says they have low air-propelling velocity and are too spread out, with five air exits instead of one powerful point.
