Paramount+ will likely look a lot different without the creative mind of famed Yellowstone creator, Taylor Sheridan, who is moving on to brighter pastures at NBCUniversal when his current deal expires in a few years. Sheridan, responsible for a plethora of Paramount+ shows including Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown, in addition to 2 Yellowstone prequels, is also the mastermind behind the critically acclaimed show, Landman. The actors of the hit series, whose second season premieres on November 16, are speaking candidly about Sheridan’s impending departure. Entertainment ‘Landman’ Season 2 Feels Like ‘Yellowstone’ — But Even Bolder Ryan Britt Actors Sound Off Billy Bob Thornton, who stars in the show as Lt. Tommy Norris, spoke about Sheridan’s breakup with Paramount, and what that meant for the status of his Landman. “I think the shows that are at Paramount, stay at Paramount, so I don’t think those are affected,” he told The Hollywood Reporter at the season two premiere in New York. “His deal is for the future. And who knows what that holds. Taylor is a brilliant guy, and I’m sure wherever he goes, whatever he does is gonna be successful, at least I know it’ll be real.” “It’s not gonna impact the future of this series because everything that Taylor had at Paramount is gonna stay at Paramount. It’s not like he’s taking it there,” Sam Elliot, a new addition to the Landman cast, told the outlet. “The Universal thing, as I understand, it’s a whole new deal, so it’s just great for Taylor’s world. I think it’s fantastic.” Released in 2024, Landman’s premiere episode was the largest debut for a Paramount+ series since a 2022 episode of 1923, a prequel series to Yellowstone, starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. What We Know Last month, Puck first reported that Sheridan’s tenure with Paramount+ would end in 2028. The outlet suggested that Sheridan was unhappy with new management; David Ellison successfully merged Skydance Media and Paramount Global in June 2025. Ellison told CNBC this past summer he was optimistic about locking Sheridan down longterm. “I have a really good relationship with Taylor and I think he is literally a singular genius and content creator,” he said in August. “I mean, when you look at him, he literally has a perfect track record. And so, from that standpoint, I’m thrilled that, you know, we have an exclusive deal with him through 2028. And my goal is to have Taylor call Paramount his home for as long as he wants to be telling stories.” According to the outlet, Sheridan started entertaining offers from other services/networks due to a separate movie deal he had with Paramount, set to end this March. Ultimately, Sheridan inked a 5-year deal with NBCUniversal that will begin January 1, 2029.
