‘I have suffered the most in NPP; I will make welfare my priority’

“I have suffered the most in the NPP, so I know what it means to be left behind,” flagbearer hopeful Ing Kwabena Agyei Agyepong declared passionately, promising to make the welfare of party members his top priority if elected leader. Addressing delegates of the Ahafo Ano South West Constituency at Kunso on Saturday, October 18, 2025, during his Ashanti Regional campaign tour, Agyepong said his personal experiences of pain and exclusion within the party had strengthened his resolve to restore fairness, inclusion, and respect across the NPP. “I am the headmaster of those who have suffered in the NPP, and your welfare will be at the bottom of my heart,” he told delegates to thunderous applause. The former NPP General Secretary and one-time Press Secretary to former President John Agyekum Kufuor emphasized that the party’s leadership must reconnect with its grassroots to rebuild trust and unity. He pledged to lead a compassionate, fair, and inclusive NPP that reflects its founding principles of sacrifice, service and selflessness. NPP Primary: Kwabena Agyapong’s team dismisses disqualification rumours “I have never insulted anyone in this race, and I have no tape of myself speaking against any NPP member. My focus is on uniting our family and restoring respect within our ranks,” he stressed. Agyepong also raised concerns about the neglect of long-serving members and retired executives who, despite their sacrifices, feel forgotten. He revealed that in April 2025, he formally wrote to the National Council proposing voting rights for former constituency executives as part of efforts to make the party more inclusive. Reflecting on the NPP’s 2024 election performance, he warned that the party’s loss of over two million votes stemmed from internal apathy and frustration among its own supporters. He called for urgent efforts to rebuild confidence and rekindle the grassroots spirit that once defined the NPP. Describing himself as a man of “principle, discipline, and integrity,” Agyepong drew inspiration from his mentor, former President Kufuor, reminding delegates that Kufuor won the 2000 elections from the bottom of the ballot — the same position he occupies in the upcoming primaries. “Kufuor, my father in politics, won from the bottom of the ballot. I am also last on the ballot ‘asɛɛ hɔ’ and I believe it’s a sign that victory is coming,” he said amid cheers and chants. Delegates who attended the meeting hailed Agyepong as a unifier and a man of integrity. Watch as Ghanaians share bold ideas to end galamsey
