Breakups are never easy, especially when work deadlines and emotions collide. One employee decided to handle it with complete honesty, by writing a leave application that has now sparked a larger conversation about openness at work. Jasveer Singh, co-founder and CEO of Knot Dating, recently shared on X (formerly Twitter) what he described as the most honest leave request he has ever received. The message wasn’t about illness or family emergencies, it was about heartbreak. A Leave Request Straight from the Heart In his post, Singh shared a screenshot of an email from one of his employees. The subject line read: “Leave application from 28th to 8th.” The message said, “Hello Sir, I recently had a breakup and haven’t been able to focus on work. I need a short break. I’m working from home today, so I’d like to take leave from the 28th to 8th.” Singh captioned the post, “Got the most honest leave application yesterday. Gen Z doesn’t do filters!” The CEO also appreciated the employee’s honesty, noting how today’s younger professionals are more open about mental health and emotional struggles, even in workplace settings. Internet Applauds the Employee’s Honesty Many online users found the leave request both relatable and refreshing. They praised the employee for being honest instead of making up excuses. A user commented, “Pls grant him leave. Uske mohalle me Aishwarya nhi ati hogi.” Singh replied, “Leave approved without any questions.” Another person said, “This is perfectly okay. Better yet, don’t explain what it’s for at all.” Someone joked, “There are people who don’t even take that many leaves for their marriage.” Others drew a light-hearted comparison between generations. “Gen Z breaks up and applies for leave. Millennials broke down, cried in the washroom, and still met deadlines,” a user wrote. Another added, “Gen Z treat HR like their therapist and Outlook like a diary.” Many applauded Singh’s quick response when he confirmed that the leave was “approved instantly.”
