The Bess Motors Marchin Patriots Sports Club entered a new era of leadership and promise last Thursday, as the club officially renewed its partnership with Bess Motors Limited and welcomed its new president, Ian Maharaj, Managing Director of Bess Motors. At a ceremony held at Bess Motors’ new facility in Charlieville, a symbolic cheque representing full sponsorship support was presented, confirming the company’s continued commitment to the Patriots for the 2026 season and beyond. The event also marked the official handover of outgoing president Adrian Ali, who was commended for transforming the Marchin Patriots from a struggling community team into one of the top cricket clubs locally. Ali reflected on his journey with emotion and gratitude, recalling the club’s humble beginnings and its growth since partnering with Bess Motors in 2020. “When Bess Motors came on board, everything changed,” he said. “They didn’t just put a logo on our shirts—they became believers. Their faith turned Marchin from a struggling club into a national contender.” He also praised the club’s unity and resilience, noting that the Patriots’ success—winning league and cup titles and now competing among the nation’s elite—was built on loyalty and teamwork. In renewing the sponsorship, Aidan Maharaj, representing Bess Motors, said the company’s commitment goes beyond cricket. “Supporting this club is more than a business decision,” he stated. “It’s an investment in people, in discipline, and in the positive spirit that sport brings to our youth,” added Maharaj, who also announced that West Indies opener Evin Lewis will serve as the new captain of the Patriots. Also in attendance was the Mayor of Chaguanas, Faiq Mohammed, and Dr Colin Neil Gosine, member of parliament for Chaguanas West, both of whom hailed the partnership as a model for community development. Mohammed lauded the Patriots’ consistent performances, saying, “Last year was no fluke. You all proved that success is no accident. It comes from discipline, teamwork and a burning desire to represent your community with pride.” In 2023, Marchin won the ‘treble’ at Premiership 2 level—the League, the 50-over title and the T20 crown. In 2024, their first year in Premiership 1, the club secured second in the League and were crowned 50-over champs. In 2025, they finished second again in the League and reached the semi-finals of the T20. “That’s not luck,” Ali said of those accomplishments. Gosine echoed similar sentiments, describing the partnership as “a shining example of what passion, persistence and proper leadership can achieve.” He added, “Bess Motors didn’t just provide funding—they provided belief and stability. The best chapter of this club’s story is still to come.”
