Peters Monrovia, Liberia; October 28, 2025 - The National Elections Commission (NEC) has officially stamped the Proposed People’s Action Party (PAP) of Montserrado County Senator Saah H. Joseph, with approval to hold its first national convention, confirming that the party has met all preliminary requirements for registration to become a full-fledged political party. The NEC in a communication to the party under the signature of its Chairperson, Madam Davidetta Brown-Lansanah, dated October 27, 2025, under the caption, "Authorization for Convention” Authorized the PAP to proceed with its convention to adopt its constitution, elect officials, and finalize its registration process. "Ref: Authorization for Convention. Dear Mr. Sirleaf, I present my compliments on behalf of the National Elections Commission (NEC) and inform you that the Proposed People's Action Party (PAP) has met the preliminary requirements for registering political parties, alliances, and coalitions in Liberia. The Commission authorizes you to take the proposed party to its first national convention no later than six (6) months upon receipt of this communication." The NEC chairperson stated in her communication. According to the NEC, this authorization is consistent with Section 7.1 of the Regulations and Procedures Relating to the Registration of Political Parties, Alliances, Coalitions, and Independent Candidates, which states that "Upon the proposed party's satisfaction of the above requirements in Section 6, the NEC shall authorize the organizing committee to take the proposed party to its first national convention to, among other things, adopt the party's constitution and by-laws and elect its officials in keeping with Article 79 of the 1986 Constitution.". "Upon your satisfaction with the convention provision indicated above, the Commission shall officially certify your institution as a registered political party in Liberia”, the NEC communication concludes. Once a staunch supporter of former President George Weah, and a member of the ex-ruling Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), Senator Joseph parted company with Mr. Weah months ago, citing, among others, that Mr. Weah had kept speech from him.
