'What a big heart he had': Family tribute to dad, 55, killed on M6

The family of a man killed in a collision on the M6 have paid tribute to him, calling him the 'heart and soul' of their lives. The M6 was closed for around 10 hours after the crash on Sunday (October 26), which sadly led to the death of Noel Martin Sutton. Emergency services were called to the southbound carriageway between Junction 28 (Leyland) and Junction 27 (Standish) at around 9.30pm, after a collision involving two vehicles close to Charnock Richard Services, LancsLive reported. Join the Manchester Evening News WhatsApp group HERE Noel, from Preston, was named as the man killed in the crash after an inquest was opened at Preston Coroners' Court today (November 6). The 55-year-old, of Waverley Gardens, was pronounced dead at the scene and his identity was confirmed by PC Gavin Entwistle using a police fingerprint scanner. Area Coroner Kate Bisset said: "This gentleman died in a road traffic collision and his death was referred to the coroner. "The crash happened between junctions 28 and 27 on the M6 at Charnock Richard." A final inquest will be held at Preston Coroners' Court on February 27. After Noel's death family and friends raised more than £3,600 for the groundworker's funeral. On the GoFundMe page, Noel's son, Declan said: "My dad can only be described as the heart and soul of your life. "He was a spiritual man who lived life through his heart - and what a big heart he had." In the story shared on the GoFundMe page a friend wrote: "Noel was passionate about so many things - motorbikes, music, and walking his beloved dog. He loved his family and friends unconditionally. "Though he faced his own struggles with mental health, Noel was at his happiest surrounded by those he loved. "He especially cherished his 'boys' nights in' with his only son and grandson - moments filled with laughter, stories, and love. "Noel touched so many lives, and his spirit will live on forever in our hearts."
