EXCLUSIVE: Amazon Prime Video is considering taking another shot at The Assassin. Deadline hears that a second season is in the works at producer Two Brothers Pictures after the success of the first season, which starred Keeley Hawes (Scoop) and Freddie Highmore (The Good Doctor). A deal for the renewal has not yet been agreed, but development is underway. Amazon Prime Video declined to comment. Season 1 became Amazon Prime Video’s highest-rated UK original drama of 2025 when it premiered in July, according to official seven-day Barb viewing figures, supplied by overnights.tv. The Assassin‘s first episode was watched by a high of 1.6M viewers, putting it comfortably ahead of the best-performing episodes of other Prime Video UK dramas this year (see below), including Robin Wright’s buzzy series The Girlfriend. Prime Video’s biggest hits in the UK have been in unscripted. Clarkson’s Farm Season 4 premiered with nearly 5M viewers in May, while LOL: Last One Laughing UK built to an audience of 3.3M in April. The Assassin followed retired professional killer Julie (Keeley Hawes) and her estranged son Edward (Highmore) as they are forced to work together in a fight for survival on a remote Greek island. The six-part series was written and created by Harry and Jack Williams (The Tourist), with additional writers including Krissie Ducker (Killing Eve), Hamish Wright (Significant Other), and Selina Lim (Sex Education). Season 1 was co-produced by ZDF in German, All3Media International, and Stan in Australia.
