'Supernatural' Leaving Netflix on December 18 After Long Run

In the modern media landscape, it can feel like there are endless streaming services available for people to choose from. Despite that, the company that popularized the concept, Netflix, remains the industry leader since it has more worldwide subscribers than any of its competitors. Given how successful Netflix is, it is a big deal when a show becomes available or departs the streaming service. Unfortunately for fans of one of the most popular and beloved paranormal horror-drama shows ever, it is set to leave Netflix soon. ‘Supernatural’ Is Leaving Netflix on December 18, 2025 Netflix has announced that all 15 seasons of Supernatural will be leaving on December 18, 2025. That means that, as of the time of this writing, fans have just over a month, or 36 days, left to watch the show on Netflix. As an October 2011 Screen Rant article shows, many Supernatural seasons were added to Netflix in January 2012. In November 2020, the final season of the much-beloved show became available to watch on the streaming service. That timing is interesting since the timing of when Supernatural will be leaving Netflix was decided because of when the final season was added. Why ‘Supernatural’ Is Leaving Netflix Since streaming services have forever changed how TV shows are watched, people have become used to seeing series move from one to another. As a result, many people rarely think about what leads to non-original shows becoming available and leaving different streaming services. With that in mind, it is interesting to look at why Supernatural is leaving Netflix and how the departure is part of a disappointing pattern for many users. In May 2019, Deadline published an article about the business relationship that led to Netflix becoming the home of several shows that were produced for The CW network. That article stated that the streaming service signed a deal in 2011 with CBS and Warner Bros. to make The CW’s shows available to watch on Netflix. However, Deadline’s article revealed that the agreement wasn’t being renewed. Even though the decision not to renew the deal was made years ago, the original agreement ensured Supernatural would remain on Netflix for a long time. According to the terms of the original deal with Warner Bros. and CBS, the shows involved in the agreement had to be exclusive to Netflix for five years after the final season was added. Since Supernatural’s final season was added to Netflix in November 2020, that set up the show’s upcoming December 2025 departure. As an article from What’s on Netflix outlines, several other CW shows have already left or will depart the streaming service in the months and years to come. Between September 2022 and September 2024, Reign, The Vampire Diaries, Life Sentence, The Originals, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane the Virgin, and iZombie all left Netflix. On the same day that Supernatural will be departing, on December 18, 2025, The 100 and Arrow will also be leaving. Black Lightning and Supergirl will stop being available on Netflix in September and December 2026, respectively. That will be followed by September 2027, marking the end for Legends of Tomorrow, Charmed, and Legacies. December 2027 will be the month Dynasty will no longer be available on Netflix, and The Flash and Riverdale will be gone after November 2028. Finally, the last show to leave the streaming service will be All American in December 2029.
