The nation rejoiced last night when the first “Traitor” was voted out of The Celebrity Traitors, breaking an entertainingly shocking run for the celeb cast of the show. After dodging his fate at the “Round Table” for six episodes, Jonathan Ross was finally voted out by his fellow celebrities, becoming the first “Traitor” of the series to be correctly identified. However no sooner had Jonathan left than another huge twist was revealed, and people aren’t sure what to make of it. After turning on their fellow “Traitor” Jonathan to avoid suspicion, Cat Burns and Alan Carr quickly learned of a new challenge courtesy of The Traitors’ trademark wax-sealed envelope. Cat and Alan were told they must murder their next celebrity “in plain sight” during a dinner party laid on in celebration of the celebrities catching their first “Traitor”. A tricky feat, given the shrinking number of people left in the game. Trickier still, is the way in which Cat and Alan have to commit their murder - toasting their chosen victim while saying: “Parting is such sweet sorrow” - followed by the doomed contestant’s name. The remaining “Traitors” decided that Alan would do the killing, as the phrase would sound particularly strange coming from Cat, however viewers are worried the twist is too tricky for Alan to succeed. “I appreciate the producers wanting to stir things up, but this is actively working against the Traitors, making it almost impossible to get away with,” one person posted on X. Another added: “They’ll know he’s a traitor because this phrase combined with the then murdered person’s name is too obvious.” It’s a sentiment shared by lots of other viewers, particularly given Alan’s runaway success as one of the most-loved stars of the series. Of course, plenty of people are also living for the drama of the second “plain sight” murder of the series, after Alan offed his close pal Paloma Faith in a move that has convinced many celebrities he couldn’t possibly be a “Traitor”. Last night’s episode of Celebrity Traitors also saw Lucy Beaumont leave the show after being murdered face to face by the “Traitors” in a conclusion to last week’s cliffhanger, which left us guessing about who would go home out of the comedian and fellow “Faithfuls” Kate Garraway and Nick Mohammed. As for whether Alan can pull off his second plain sight murder? We’ll have to wait until tonight… The Celebrity Traitors continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
