'Scotland's oldest bakery' in Strathaven up for sale after 200 years

Scotland's oldest bakery is up for sale after 200 years in the same family. Alexander Taylor Bakery in Strathaven was opened in 1820. Married couple Barry and Claire Taylor became the sixth generation to run it when they took it over 28 years ago. Barry's father ran the business until the mid-90s. Barry and Claire met at art school in Cheltenham, but returned to carry on the family's 200-year legacy. They raised their own family over the years while working in the bakery. But now, with their children grown up, the couple have made the decision to sell the business. The bakery is listed with Business Partnership, who are accepting inquiries from interested parties. Cameron Young, the agent handling the sale, said: "Alexander Taylor Bakery has been a cornerstone of Strathaven for over two centuries; the current owners, and their family before them, have done a remarkable job of preserving its heritage and traditional charm."
