'Running Point' Season 2 Casts Ray Romano in Recurring Role

Ray Romano is set for a recurring role in “Running Point” Season 2, Variety has confirmed. Romano will play coach Norm Stinson in the Netflix comedy’s second season. Robert Townsend was originally announced for the part in September, but the creative team decided to go in a different direction and have recast the role with Romano. Reshoots are now underway. Stinson is described as “a basketball savant turned social recluse who will team up with Isla (Kate Hudson) to re-discover his love for the game, and life.” This will mark Romano’s second role in a Netflix comedy series of late. Previously, he starred in the series “No Good Deed” at the streamer, which debuted in 2024. His other recent TV roles include “Made for Love,” “Bookie,” and “Bupkis.” Romano is best known for starring in the self-titled sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond,” which ran for nine seasons and remains popular to this day. In film, Romano recently starred in “The Irishman” for Martin Scorsese as well as features like “The Big Sick” and the “Ice Age” animated movie franchise. He is repped by LBI Entertainment, The Conversation Company and Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka. “Running Point” originally debuted on Netflix in February and was quickly renewed for a second season. The show ultimately spent five weeks in Netflix’s Global English Top 10 TV chart. The official Season 1 logline states: “When a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon is appointed president of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job.” Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen serve as writers and executive producers on “Running Point,” with Stassen also serving as showrunner. Hudson executive produces in addition to starring. Howard Klein, Jeanie Buss, and Linda Rambis also executive produce, with Jordan Rambis producing. The series is produced by Mindy Kaling’s Kaling International in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Kaling is under an overall deal. Deadline first reported Romano’s casting.
