Washington: Laura Loomer, a far-right activist and aide to Donald Trump, engaged in a war of words with former Al Jazeera journalist Mehdi Hasan over his 'brown woman and mixed-race kids' remark and calling JD Vance 'a bad person' after the US Vice President mocked New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani's aunt. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Mehdi Hasan targeted the Vice President, saying, "Imagine being married to a Brown woman and having mixed-race kids and then publicly mocking other Brown people as they talk publicly and emotionally about their experience of racism. Vance is just a bad person." The feud began after JD Vance reposted Mamdani's video mocking his aunt, following latter's remarks on the 9/11 terror attacks. What Did Zohran Mamdani Say About 9/11? Earlier today, Mamdani recalled the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks in New York, saying, "My aunt stopped taking the subway after 9/11 because she did not feel safe in her hijab." "Yes, she was the real victim of 9/11," he added. Mamdani pledged to further embrace his Muslim identity in response to growing attacks by former Governor Andrew Cuomo and his surrogates that he characterised as "racist and baseless." Encircled by faith leaders outside a Bronx mosque, Mamdani spoke in emotional terms about the "indignities" long faced by the city’s Muslim population, choking back tears as he described his aunt’s decision not to ride the subway after the September 11 attacks because she didn't feel safe being seen in a religious head covering. He recounted how, when he first entered politics, an uncle gently suggested he keep his faith to himself. "These are lessons that so many Muslim New Yorkers have been taught," Mamdani said. "And over these last few days, these lessons have become the closing messages of Andrew Cuomo, Curtis Sliwa and Eric Adams." How JD Vance Reacted to Mamdani's Remarks? Mocking Mamdani's remarks, JD Vance responded on X, "According to Zohran, the real victim of 9/11 was his auntie who got some (allegedly) bad looks."
