Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader and Union Minister Chirag Paswan reiterated his support for Janata Lok Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar as the NDA’s chief ministerial face, asserting that he will retain his seat after the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. Speaking at News18 India Dangal, Paswan said, “We have always said that our Chief Minister will be Nitish Kumar. The dignity of democracy says that the elected MLAs will decide. There are five parties here, and we are simply following democratic decorum. Everyone knows that once we win, Nitish Ji will definitely be the Chief Minister.” Speaking about the seat-sharing plan with the NDA allies, Paswan said he did not want Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party to compete on fewer than 100 seats as the RJD was contesting on over 140 seats. He also outlined the main goal of the alliance of the Mahagathbandhan alliance. I got 29 seats, but I happily accepted it as my father (Ram Vilas Paswan) had won 29 MLAs around 20 years ago. Now, I have the opportunity to win 29 MLAs,” he said, appearing confident that his party would win all seats. However, Paswan offered no comment on becoming the deputy Bihar CM, although he expressed a wish to become involved in the Bihar government. Paswan also said that caste politics had inflicted the most damage on Bihar and its people. He also accused the RJD of being involved in vote bank politics and preferring only one family, saying his priorities lied with the youth and women. The voting for the 243-seat Bihar Assembly will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11, whereas bye-elections for eight seats across seven states and Union Territories will be held on November 11. The results for both will be declared on November 14. Paswan had earlier targeted Tejashwi Yadav, saying the opposition alliance had given up what little chances they had of winning the elections by naming him their CM face. “What do they hope to gain by promising Mukesh Sahni the Deputy CM’s post? The way he has been coerced into submission by the RJD is not lost on his Nishad community,” he said. As per the deal for the 243-member assembly, the BJP and the JD(U) will contest on 101 seats each. Chirag Paswan’s LJP (Ramvilas) got a big slice, with a share of 29 seats. Upendra Kushwaha’s RLM and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM got a share of six seats each.
