'More Splendid Sheesh Mahal': Swati Maliwal Alleges Kejriwal Allotted '7-Star Mansion' In Punjab

In a fresh political attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), MP and former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal has alleged that former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been allotted a “luxurious 7-star government mansion” in Chandigarh’s Sector 2 under the Chief Minister’s quota. Taking to X, Maliwal wrote, “After the Sheesh Mahal in Delhi became vacant, Arvind Kejriwal ji has had an even more splendid Sheesh Mahal built in Punjab than the one in Delhi.” “In Chandigarh’s Sector 2, a luxurious 7-star government mansion of 2 acres under the CM quota has been allotted to Arvind Kejriwal ji,” she wrote. Swati Maliwal further alleged that Kejriwal used government aircraft for personal and party-related travel. “Yesterday, he boarded a government helicopter right from in front of his house for Ambala, and then from Ambala, the Punjab government’s private jet took him to Gujarat for party work,” she claimed. Maliwal also accused the Punjab government of misusing state resources for Kejriwal’s personal convenience, saying, “The entire Punjab government is engaged in serving one man.” With her X post, Swati Maliwal also shared an image which appeared to show an aerial view of a government bungalow complex in Chandigarh’s Sector 2, with an arrow marking the purported location of the property. कल अंबाला के लिए घर के सामने से सरकारी हेलीकॉप्टर में… pic.twitter.com/Vy1MfMGkt1 — Swati Maliwal (@SwatiJaiHind) October 31, 2025 The row over Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence, while he was Delhi’s Chief Minister, began in 2024, after the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) submitted a factual report on the complaint of BJP leader Vijender Gupta, alleging illegal construction at Kejriwal’s official residence, located at 6 Flag Staff Road. Gupta alleged that Kejriwal flouted building regulations to construct a lavish mansion (‘Sheesh Mahal’) covering 40,000 square yards (8 acres). The complaint highlighted that government properties, including Plot numbers 45 and 47 on Rajpur Road (previously housing senior officers and judges in Type-V flats) and two bungalows (8-A & 8-B, Flag Staff Road), were demolished and merged into the new residence, violating ground coverage and floor area ratio (FAR) norms and lacked proper layout plan approvals. On October 16, the CVC registered the complaint for further examination. In November 2024, the CVC forwarded the complaint to the CPWD for further investigation. The CVC assured that appropriate action would be taken based on a factual report. On October 21, Vijender Gupta lodged a formal complaint with the Vigilance Commission regarding extravagant spending on the renovation and interior decoration of the former Chief Minister’s residence. In his complaint to the Chief Vigilance Commissioner, Gupta wrote about massive financial irregularities, stating that Arvind Kejriwal spent crores of taxpayers’ money on luxurious amenities for his residence. He stated that the expenditures on luxury items far exceeded reasonable limits and raised serious concerns about corruption. On November 5, the CVC took cognisance of Gupta’s complaint and acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations. Later, on December 5, a factual report based on Vijender Gupta’s complaint was submitted to the CVC by the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO), CPWD.
