Initially unveiled in 2008, cinema enthusiasts still cannot stop raving about The Dark Knight, the second chapter of the celebrated Batman film trilogy. Helmed by Hollywood icon Christopher Nolan, this production transformed the landscape of superhero cinema as we recognise it today, with its 'exceptional' star-studded ensemble and remarkable screenplay. Drawing from the DC Comics superhero we all recognise and adore, Batman, this production serves as the follow-up to the 2005 release Batman Begins. This time round, Christian Bale portrays the caped crusader himself, alongside the legendary Heath Ledger as The Joker, reports the Express . Since Ledger's heartbreaking death, devotees of the production have treasured it even more dearly, and his legacy continues through his masterful performance of such a recognisable comic book villain. On the review platform Rotten Tomatoes, one viewer commented: "The Dark Knight is a masterpiece that sets a new standard for Batman films. The storyline centres on Batman, who teams up with police lieutenant James Gordon and district attorney Harvey Dent to round up criminals causing chaos across Gotham City. But then a sinister anarchist emerges on the scene, known as the Joker, and he stops at nothing to push Batman to breaking point, testing just how far he'll go to protect the city. Their bitter rivalry deepens significantly when Batman is compelled to question everything he stands for. At the same time, a fresh love triangle develops, and he's left with no option but to upgrade his technology to thwart the Joker's schemes. Another review boldly says The Dark Knight is the "best movie of all time". Meanwhile, a different admirer of the film describes it as "one of the most legendary pieces of cinema in history." A glowing review says: "One of the best movies ever made, regardless of genre. The acting by everyone involved is phenomenal. I rewatch this movie almost every year because of how good it is!". One aspect that numerous devotees of the film share is their collective admiration for Heath Ledger's portrayal. In a heartbreaking twist of fate, the promising actor passed away from an accidental overdose in January 2008, months before the film reached cinemas that July. Initially, his casting faced backlash from devoted fans of the franchise, but their doubts were quickly dispelled upon witnessing his interpretation of the iconic villain. One review says: "My favourite movie of all time! I know quote for quote, and Heath Ledger's performance is one of the best of all time, no doubt."
