Emile Heskey has branded Alexander Isak lazy - and told Liverpool's record signing he needs to work harder. Isak has endured a difficult start to life at Liverpool , following his British-record £125m switch from Newcastle. The striker has managed one goal in eight appearances - in the Carabao Cup - and has struggled to make an impact . To make matters worse, Arne Slot's champions find themselves in the middle of a humiliating run of four straight league defeats, with their defence of the Premier League title in jeopardy. Heskey reckons Liverpool are in crisis - and believes injured Isak needs to do more to help himself and the team succeed. The former Liverpool forward told 10bet Casino : "We don’t like to use that word [crisis], but what other word can you use? "We've never seen anything like this at Liverpool for a long tmie. How do Liverpool turn it around? How do Liverpool pick themselves up and go again? "The thing for me is, when you are not scoring goals, you need to still contribute to games. My view was, the fundamental thing you can do is work hard, run around, and frustrate defenders. The defence starts at the front. "I was told this at Leicester, I was told this at Liverpool, because they had the best defender who played up front - Ian Rush. "And he was just a menace to defenders. Fundamentally you have to get that right, and everything else will follow. "It looks like his [Isak's] fitness is not quite where it should be. It looks like he's huffing and puffing a bit. "So he just needs to get his fitness up a bit, to put in the graft that is needed at the highest level. "At the highest level, you believe you get more time on the ball so you need to do less work. But in fact, you have to do more work."
