The bright lights of Old Trafford have blinded many who have come forth, and Ruben Amorim was not rid of the same. The Manchester United head coach humbly revealed that he questioned his future at the club during a rocky debut season, but insists he now feels more convinced than ever that he made the right choice. Amorim marks one year in charge on Saturday as United travel to face Nottingham Forest, looking to consolidate their push for a top-four Premier League finish. The Portuguese coach’s first 12 months at Old Trafford were anything but smooth: United finished 15th, lost the Europa League final, and began this season with just one win in five — a stretch that left Amorim doubting whether he’d survive the year. “Sometimes there were moments that were tough to deal with,” Amorim admitted. “To lose so many games, that was hard for me because this is Manchester United. Putting all the focus on the Europa League and not winning it… that was massive. I struggled a lot and thought maybe it wasn’t meant to be.” Now, however, his outlook has shifted. “Today is the opposite,” he said. “I know it was the best decision of my life. I want to be here. But for that, I need to win against Nottingham Forest.” United head into the City Ground fixture buoyed by three straight victories, their best run yet under Amorim. But Forest will be no pushovers, since they’ve won three of the last four meetings between the clubs. United’s most recent Premier League win over Forest came in August 2023, before which the Red Devils had enjoyed a dominant run of 10 consecutive victories stretching back to 1996. But the added incentive? A win tonight will skyrocket them up to second in the table — well, at least, for the time being, hopefully.
