Andre Onana has already made quite the impression since swapping Manchester United for Trabzonspor in the summer 2025 transfer window. After struggling to adapt to life in the Premier League, the Cameroon international fell down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim. This resulted in an unexpected move to Turkey for the 2025-26 season. He has played six times in total for his temporary employers, keeping two clean sheets and conceding six goals. While he was always under intense scrutiny during his two-year spell at Old Trafford, Onana has left an entirely different impression on fans and media over in Turkey. Andre Onana Has Been 'Outstanding' Since Man Utd Exit Trabzonspor sports reporter Hasan Tuncel was glowing in his praise for the 29-year-old in an interview with Manchester Evening News. He was quick to sum up Onana's start to life at his new club: "In one word: outstanding." Tuncel expanded on how the shot-stopper has made a strong impression in front of his new supporters. Recalling a specific incident where Onana stepped up as a leader, he continued: "A Trabzonspor goal was controversially disallowed, creating real tension on the pitch. During that chaos, Onana’s leadership stood out - he calmed his teammates, used his experience, and pulled off some remarkable saves. "From that moment on, not just the fans in Turkey but everyone watching internationally saw that he is still a top-level goalkeeper. He has maintained the same standard in the following matches." The reporter went so far as to label the Man Utd flop as 'flawless', which is quite a contrast to his time in England. "So far, he’s been flawless. Beyond his goalkeeping, he’s become a leader in the dressing room," Tuncel added. Not only have his performances on the pitch gone up a level, but the former Ajax and Inter Milan star has been sharing his expertise with a trio of youngsters in the squad. Tuncel explained: "He personally mentors three young goalkeepers — Onuralp Cevikkan, Ahmet Dogan Yildirim, and Erolcan Colak — guiding them during and after training sessions. This mentorship has earned him great respect within the club." Trabzonspor are currently on a winning run after racking up four consecutive victories with Onana between the sticks. They trail Turkish Super Lig leaders Galatasaray by five points, but are in a strong position to challenge for Champions League football if their impressive form continues.
