'Ghana is in transition, not only in politics but in purpose' — Health Minister - Modern Ghana

The Minister of Health, Hon. Mintah Akandoh, has declared that “Ghana is in transition, not only in politics but in purpose,” as the country pursues a renewed commitment to people-centered development, especially in healthcare. Speaking at the 2025 graduation ceremony of KAAF University, the Minister underscored the government’s dedication to building systems that prioritize citizens’ well-being through flagship programmes such as the Mahama Cares Program and the Free Primary Healthcare Program. He described these initiatives as key pillars of Ghana’s journey toward universal healthcare, adding that they represent a deep moral and social promise to every citizen. “That no Ghanaian should fear illness simply because they cannot afford healthcare, that prevention will stand alongside treatment, and that healthcare will reach communities rather than wait for communities to reach it,” he said. Hon. Akandoh noted that the government is expanding health infrastructure, investing in technology, and building human capacity nationwide to sustain the ongoing transformation of the sector. “Policies do not heal people; people heal people,” he remarked. “This transformation requires nurses who comfort, scientists who innovate, administrators who build systems that serve, midwives who safeguard mothers and newborns, and physician assistants who stand in the gap for communities often forgotten.” He commended the graduates for their resilience and sacrifice throughout their academic journey and urged them to embody excellence, compassion, and patriotism as they step into professional life. Under the theme “Empowering Minds, Shaping Futures,” the Minister said true education goes beyond memorizing facts or passing exams — it nurtures curiosity, bold thinking, and ethical leadership. “The degree you hold today will open doors, but what you do beyond those doors will define your integrity, your work ethic, and your willingness to serve more than yourself,” he told the graduates. Hon. Akandoh also lauded KAAF University for its holistic approach to education, saying the institution has trained students not only to succeed academically but to make meaningful contributions to national development. The Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Francis Acheampong, echoed the Minister’s remarks, emphasizing that empowerment begins with the mind — through curiosity, critical thinking, and a clear sense of purpose. “Through rigorous academic work, mentorship, research, and practical training, our students have been prepared not only for successful careers but also for meaningful lives of service and leadership,” Dr. Acheampong said, adding that “empowered minds are the architects of tomorrow.” A total of 1,178 students graduated from various disciplines, comprising 51 percent females and 49 percent males.
