'For sure'- Tottenham star leads from the front as Thomas Frank’s 10 men make a European statement

Micky van de Ven gives honest verdict after Tottenham Hotspur’s 4-0 win over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League Tottenham Hotspur secured a 4-0 home win over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Thomas Frank wanted a response from his boys after the grim defeat to London rivals Chelsea on Saturday, and he certainly got one here. Spurs were totally up for the fight from the blow of the whistle and hungry to win the contest against FC Copenhagen. Brennan Johnson opened the scoring in the 19th minute for the home side, before Wilson Odobert doubled the lead six minutes after the break. Johnson was sent off in the 57th minute for a reckless challenge, but that did not dishearten Tottenham as they added two more before the full-time whistle via through Micky van de Ven and substitute Joao Palhinha. Micky van de Ven reacts to Tottenham’s big win over FC Copenhagen Micky van de Ven grabbed the headlines on the night with his incredible solo goal against the Danish outfit. With Tottenham leading 2-0 but down to 10 men and coming under pressure from opponents Copenhagen, the centre-back could have been forgiven for clearing the ball to safety when he got it on the edge of his own penalty area. Instead, the Dutchman kept his head down and started sprinting with the ball, beating one, two, three players, squeezing past a couple near the halfway line and outpacing another Copenhagen man to get through on goal, before expertly finishing past goalkeeper Dominik Kotarski. It was a goal reminiscent of Son Heung-min’s effort against Burnley almost six years ago. When asked about his take after the win over Copenhagen, Van de Ven told TNT Sports (h/t BBC Sport). “That is for sure what we needed after a tough one at the weekend, we needed to bounce back and we did.” Perfect preparation for the Manchester United game This was a kind of performance the Tottenham fans have been waiting to watch at home for some time now. A victory in the Champions League’s league phase is great, given how difficult the competition is. And to score four goals and keep a clean sheet is always a big positive. What impressed the most is the manner in which the north Londoners secured all three points against Copenhagen. Despite going a man down, they did not sit back and defend all the time. Instead, Frank’s side were keen to score more goals and that’s what the supporters want to see every time they visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The win should come as a perfect tonic to boost Tottenham’s confidence ahead of a big game against Manchester United at the weekend.
