The Dancing with the Star ballroom has gone through quite a few changes over the course of the show’s two decade run — but in honor of the recent 20th anniversary, the cast and crew got to return to the original set. Following the anniversary special that aired on Tuesday night (Nov. 11), judge and former pro Derek Hough took to social media to reveal that the production team had recreated the ballroom, just as it was back in 2005 when the show premiered. Everyone got the chance to take a walk down memory lane during the after party hosted when the show wrapped for the evening. “Okay, this is the original set of Dancing with the Stars. When I tell you this is the original set, this is what it was. We had Christmas lights. We had these exact stairs…That was the judge’s table!” Hough shared on his Instagram story. 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 He continued, “This is an exact replica of what it was. How far we’ve come. Amazing, wow!” Later in the evening, while Hough was walking out of the soundstage, he reflected on what it felt like to be back in the place where it all began. “Wow, that is the most extraordinary experience. To be in that room, the original set of Dancing with the Stars, the nostalgia overload was just extraordinary,” Hough said. “I almost don’t want to leave because it felt like being a 22-year-old kid being on the show for the first time. That was extraordinary.” Hough also shared his thoughts about the 20th anniversary, reflecting on “so many happy reunions,” “happy memories” and “relationships built on this show.” “When we say that this show is more than a show, it’s a family, this is what we’re talking about. There’s nothing like it. There was nothing like the show before and there will be nothing like it ever again. This show is very special,” Hough concluded.
