In a case of alleged bank fraud, a woman in Bengaluru claims that she had lost Rs 90,900 from her account. The money was debited in three separate transactions of Rs 30,300 each. She alleged that she had not received any OTP and didn’t authorise any payment. However, the bank claimed the transactions were authorised through OTPs. The woman, identified as Ritu Maheshwari, told Bangalore Mirror that she is an account holder at a private sector bank. She asserted that without any authorisation, the money was debited in three transactions between 3.24 am and 4.03 am on October 1. ‘Bank Avoiding Liability’ Maheshwari further alleged “lapse in the bank’s real-time fraud detection systems.” Speaking to the media outlet, she said she had filed a complaint with the bank at 4.37 am. However, even before her complaint, the bank had blocked her card after identifying suspicious transactions. Her card was blocked at 4:09 am. She further alleged “system failure” at the bank’s end and stated that the bank is trying to avoid liability because of its breach of data and weak security. Based on her complaint, Mico Layout police registered a first information report (FIR) on October 3, 2025. The FIR was registered under Sections 66(C), 66(D) of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The woman also contacted the National Cyber Crime helpline at 1930 and registered a complaint on October 1.
