Police are investigating after at least $30,000 worth of equipment was stolen from a small Boulder-based tree care company over the weekend. Boulder police were called to Velte Forestry and Arboriculture in the 2700 block of Pine Street on Monday for a report of a burglary, according to Boulder police spokesperson Dionne Waugh. Police said an unknown person broke into a garage and stole multiple pieces of equipment sometime between Friday and Saturday. All of the business’s chainsaws, a chipper truck, a trailer and a skid steer were among the equipment stolen, according to owner Paul Velte. Police estimated the cost of the stolen items to be more than $30,000, Waugh said. Velte said the theft is “really affecting” his business. He said they were trying to borrow equipment from other arborists in the area to get through the week. “Arborists can usually figure it out,” Velte added. Waugh said police are investigating all possibilities and asking for information from the community to determine what happened.
