This cannot be real: Courier van seen dumped after being driven down canal towpath

A courier van was seen on the verge of a canal after being abandoned on a towpath in Rochdale over the weekend. The red van had been dumped on the public footpath close to the Th'iron Donger Bridge beside the Rochdale Canal in Middleton . It had been spotted by walkers from the Boarshaw Dog Walking Club on Saturday morning (October 25). The M.E.N was told by a member that a crane was called in to lift the vehicle from the opposite side of the canal and remove it. Join the Manchester Evening News WhatsApp group HERE Details around how the van became wedged on the footpath are not known. The company involved has been approached for a comment. Pictures of the van were shared across social media, with many users questioning how the driver of the vehicle ended up on the canal verge. One person responded: "Surely if satnav directs you to a canal common sense tells you the right direction?" as another added: "God loves a trier but that is dedication." Another posted: "That'll take some force to get out of there" as a fourth quipped: "Can’t park there sir." Another user added: "This cannot be real this is right near my house. How f***ing stupid must you be to drive up a canal?" Greater Manchester Police have also been approached for a statement. --- Day in day out, our reporters in the Manchester Evening News newsroom bring you remarkable stories from all aspects of Mancunian life.
