A woman had to be removed from Stormont's public gallery this afternoon as Education Minister Paul Givan was responding to a motion of no confidence in him. As the Minister was finishing his speech, shouts of "shame on you, Paul Givan" could be heard within the chamber alongside "murder" and "genocide". It is understood that the woman had been part of a protest outside Parliament Buildings earlier this morning, which had been organised by the group Mothers Against Genocide. Responding to the events, Speaker Edwin Poots called for order and the debate quickly resumed. Applause could be heard from the Assembly floor as she was led away. The motion, which was brought by People Before Profit MLA Gerry Carroll, called for Paul Givan to be excluded from the Ministerial office for 12 months following his visit to Israel. Despite a majority of MLAs backing it, it did not receive the cross-community support required and fell.
