Options are still open- Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone gets real about competing in multiple events leading up to LA Olympics

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone expressed her thoughts about competing in multiple events as she aimed to participate in the upcoming Olympic Games on home soil. The American athlete shared that there were several options open to her, and she would be actively looking into pursuing them as she competed on the track in the upcoming season. The Olympic gold medalist began the 2025 season with the intention of going out of her comfort zone and competed in a wide range of events from the 100m to the 400m hurdles. She shared that competing in the 100m and the 100m hurdles gave her the opportunity to work on her starts as well as her quickness in the drive phase, which in turn was beneficial for her in the quarter mile.Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone made a surprising decision to compete in the 400m instead of the 400m hurdles at the World Championships and broke the American record in the event. Moreover, she became the first woman in 40 years to run the event in less than 48 seconds. She spoke to NBC Sports about the possibility of competing in the 400m and 400m hurdles at the upcoming Olympics and said:"I definitely floated the idea of some sort of a double, what that looks like. I think the options are still open. There’s a lot of different directions you could go with it."Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone hopes to continue to push her limits and achieve greater heights in the sport as she continues to compete on the track circuit.Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone gets real about missing the 400m world record Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone celebrates at the World Athletics Championships - Source: Getty ImagesSydney McLaughlin-Levrone opened up about missing the 400m world record by a small margin in an interview with the Telegraph. The American athlete shared that even though she won the gold medal at the World Championships, she felt that she could push herself even further. She recalled asking her coach about what she needed to work on to surpass the milestone.“I’m sure every athlete to a degree feels this interesting balance of pride and content, but also discontent, and wanting more; it’s this back and forth. I’m already asking Bobby: ‘Where’s the two-tenths [of a second] at? What did you see that I could have done differently or better?’ As a competitor, your mind goes to, ‘Man, like why couldn’t I be two-tenths faster?’ But I’m also super grateful for the leaps and bounds we were able to make this season," she said.McLaughlin-Levrone expressed her gratitude for being able to compete on the global stage against some of the best athletes in the world.
