Carlos Alcaraz's attitude was questioned by a prominent French tennis journalist after the Spaniard's shocking exit from the ongoing 2025 Paris Masters. The journalist compared Alcaraz's attitude to that of the iconic 'Big Three' of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. However, the comparison prompted several tennis fans to lash out at the journalist. On Tuesday, October 28, Alcaraz, the reigning World No. 1, began his 2025 Paris Masters campaign with a second-round clash against Cameron Norrie. The Spaniard produced an erratic display, leading to the Brit securing a three-set win.In the aftermath of the result, French tennis journalist Benoit Maylin slammed Carlos Alcaraz's attitude during his encounter against Norrie. According to Maylin, the attitudes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in their prime years were marked by humility, which, in the journalist's opinion, is missing in the present-day World No. 1, particularly when he is not playing at his best."I didn't like Alcaraz's attitude. You have to manage to win by playing badly, just as your illustrious predecessors did. Nadal, Djokovic, and Federer fought with the humility of the fight," Maylin said. The journalist's take on Carlos Alcaraz though, was subsequently criticized by numerous tennis fans on X (formerly Twitter)."You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about. Carlos has dragged himself through countless brutal matches and still won while playing “badly” Maybe focus on facts before throwing shade on a 22yo who’s already rewriting tennis history," one fan wrote."Ridiculous! First Alcaraz isn’t Nadal, or Djokovic or Federer, second he has WON matches where he didn’t play well and third the big 3 have LOST matches where they didn’t play well. You need a refresher course in tennis history," commented another."Alcaraz who has won more slams at 22 in history outside one player called Borg. Alcaraz who won two slams where he was match point down. U gonna tell him about being clutch!," another fan chimed in."God forbid a six times champion who won 8 out of 9 finals this year alone has an off day. He is human. You act like legends never lose. Carlos is a lovely human being who is allowed to be frustrated w himself, on an occasion he wanted to do well at. Media are just bullying atm," stated one."Tennis media at this point is just a joke, look like you've been waiting for this moment to throw your tantrums and your s**t towards him for months, f**k off," another added."What is this man yapping about? Does he watch tennis at all?" weighed in yet another fan."I don't know what happened here" - Carlos Alcaraz fails to make sense of early Paris Masters exitCarlos Alcaraz during a press conference at the 2025 Paris Masters (Source: Getty)Following his loss to Cameron Norrie in the second round of the 2025 Paris Masters, Carlos Alcaraz was asked to reflect on his thoughts about his early exit from the ATP Masters 1000 event. The Spaniard failed to make sense of his dismal outing in the French capital, opining that he was much better prepared for the tournament this time around compared to previous years."Other years I felt exhausted, I felt tired, I felt mentally, physically. But this year I feel good. I skipped Shanghai. I have been at home (for some) days so I could enjoy myself there and relax, help the battery, so I don't know what happened here. It is a tournament that is really difficult for me to play well, but I will figure it out," Alcaraz said.Carlos Alcaraz's loss has also opened the door for rival and World No. 2 Jannik Sinner to overtake the Spaniard at the summit of the ATP Tour's singles rankings. However, it still remains a tall order for Sinner to finish 2025 as the year-end No. 1. How the Italian himself fares in Paris, coupled with his and Alcaraz's respective performances at the upcoming ATP Finals will decide who ends the year at the top.
